Why certified and real-world figures differ
Certified range tests specify a fixed drive cycle, temperature range and payload. Real-world driving involves higher steady-state highway speeds, active HVAC and variable payload — all of which increase energy consumption.
How to estimate a realistic figure
For highway use with HVAC, discount the certified figure by 20–30% as a starting point. For predominantly urban stop-start driving with regen, the discount may be smaller. Verify against independent tests or owner-reported data for the specific model.
